Omaha Public
Schools Purchasing Department is in charge of acquiring goods
and services for the district. The district has not developed
an e-procurement system or online purchasing system; however,
one is under consideration. Information about purchasing can
be accessed through Business Services, by clicking on
"Purchasing" on the left-hand side.
The site has
general guidelines on requistions, procurement card
information, and suggested vendors.
Purchasing
Thresholds
Under $5,000: Purchases under this
amount may be performed via telephone quotes from three
suppliers.
$5,000 to $20,000: Purchases in this
range may be done via three telephone quotes or formal written
quotes. The purchasing department received a waiver to perform
telephone quotes for technology purchases.
$20,000
and above: These purchases must be approved by the School
Board and formally bid.
VENDOR
REGISTRATION
The district provides an informal vendor
registration process. Supplier can contact the district,
request a vendor form, fill it out, and return it to the
Purchasing Department. The department will keep the forms on
file and when an appropriate bid comes up, suppliers who
checked specific categories will be contacted.

TECHNOLOGY PURCHASES
The
district purchases most of its computers from Apple or
Gateway. It has an agreement with Apple Computer and makes
these purchases directly from the company. Gateway computers
are also used in the classrooms and offices.
Additionally, the district has an established
relationship with Dell Computer to purchase servers.
Opportunities exist in the peripherals area since the district
doesn't have any pre-existing relationships with any IT
suppliers.
