Meg Ropp - Data and Development Manager - 517-241-4148 roppm@michigan.gov Current data collection capability is really in "data
marts" rather than a data warehouse
MEIS (Michaigan Education Information System) is the
curent data collection capability
Over 800 LEAs in Michigan with strong local control
issues that would not allow for a statewide Student Information
System. There are a number of ISDs (consortiums) that manage
multiple school districts in MI
15 different SIS vendors in State - SASI has a lot of
traction, Campus has made some inroads
Data marts (MEIS) include Assessment, Special Education,
Teacher Certification (License 2000), Professional Development, and
(STAR) Student Testing Accountability Resource
Professional Development is looking at creating some new
"pilot" program, but MI budget problems are holding up a lot of
planning. According to Meg Ropp, "plans are not being cancelled but
delayed." That includes: New Data Warehouse initiatives in
2004 that could result in RFP.
MI Legislature passed a bill in December 2003,
requiring all disparate educational data to now fall under CEPI -
Center for Educational Performance and Information.
Meg Ropp states "MI hasa lot of plans to grow their data
collection capabilites all contingent upon MI funding issues in
2004
