The U.S. Department of Education site is the portal for the various Web sites operated and/or funded by the U.S. Department of Education. This includes Web sites for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (the "Nation's Report Card"), various research consortia targeted to specific issues, field-based centers who work with regions of the nation on reform issues, and educational data of various kinds. It also includes a copy of President Bush's education plan "No Child Left Behind".

 

The Council of Chief State Schools Officers, headquartered in Washington, D.C., is the member organization of the chief administrative officers (state superintendents or commissioners) of the 50 states and U.S. territories. CCSSO publishes a variety of reports and organizes consortia of states to pursue various collaborative projects. RI Commissioner Peter McWalters is president of CCSSO.

 

The American Association of School Administrators is the chief organization for superintendents and senior staff members of the 14,800 school districts of the United States. They publish a journal, other resources, and host conferences.

 

National Association of Elementary School Principals is headquartered in the greater Washington, DC area and provides numerous resources related to elementary schools.

 

The National Middle School Association, headquartered in Columbus, OH, is dedicated to the establishment, promotion, and improvement of middle schools to better serve the needs of young adolescents. NMSA and its various state affiliates sponsors professional development, publishes research on issues at the middle level, and hosts various conferences.

 

The National Association for Secondary School Principals is the chief professional organization for middle school and high school principals. They commission reports, publish a journal, and host conferences.

 

National School Boards Association is the lead organization for school committees.

 

National Parent Teachers Association holds a wealth of information targeted to parents.

 

The Parent Institute: A host of resources for schools and parents to better understand the specific ways in which parents can help their children learn and succeed in formal education.

 

U.S. Government Generally A huge information portal to the federal government and all of its agencies and entities.

Fair Test  is an advocacy group dedicated to ending abuses, misuses, and exposing the flaws of standardized testing and to ensure that evaluations of students and teachers are fair, open, and educationally sound.

 

PHI DELTA KAPPA is an international association of professional educators. Our mission is to promote quality education, with particular emphasis on publicly supported education, as essential to the development and maintenance of a democratic way of life.

Council of Exceptional Children is a national organization focused on special education needs of children. The Web site has considerable resources for parents and advocates as they work with school districts and schools to get students the services they need to succeed.

The American Educational Research Association is the world's largest research organization dedicated to educational research. It is organized into divisions by topical area and each division operates its own extensive Web site(s). AERA publishes numerous influential journals in education.

 

Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development has over 200,000 members worldwide including superintendents, curriculum directors, principals, school board members, teachers, and higher education faculty. It publishes many resources and hosts conferences of various types throughout the year.

 

Carnegie Corporation of New York is a leading philanthropic organization that has been heavily involved in education. Two highly influential reports on early childhood education and middle school education (Turning Points) serve as useful standards to improve efforts in these two sectors of American Education.

 

The Northeast and Islands Regional and Educational Laboratory (LAB) at Brown University. The purpose of the LAB is to promote school improvement through the collaboration of researchers with schools and their communities. The LAB serves Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

 

Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University is currently in transition to becoming a standards-based and practice-centered policy research and technical assistance organization with an emphasis on promoting quality education for disadvantaged children and communities.
